Hammerhead - Warm Up Party @ The Back Room Brisbane - 10th July 2015

This weekend you would have found us at The Back Room Brisbane in support of the highly anticipated Dead of Winter Festival at The Jubilee Hotel on 25th July.  Friday night was a lead up to the main event and we were excited to check out the legendary Dreamkillers.  As it turned out we conveniently won tickets to the gig through our new friends Hammerhead. \m/

Hammerhead are a four piece with members living states apart, but it seems they manage the separation just fine.  After finding out that they had been together since 2004, we were confident that they made it work regardless and wondered whether they met half way for band practice?

The boys performance was tight with guitarist Ryan carving though some killer riffs and driving guitar solos with seemingly nil to little effort.  The vocals from both the front man and the bass guitarist were equally impressive and the overall sexy glam rock of the 80's was the vibe, with a modern twist.  The boys were particularly enjoyable to photograph for that reason.  It's no wonder that they scored the Brisbane support for Mötley Crüe's last ever tour, Hammerhead are the business and shouldn't be missed live.

Hammerhead's next gig is at Sonny's House of Blues on September 5th, here's the link for more details: https://www.facebook.com/events/1125255184157809/

Baltimore Gun Club - FIRST SINGLE RELEASE 'APOLLO' from the debut album 'INTERSPACE'

It really only took the first few bars into the song for us to dig Baltimore Gun Club's first single release, 'Apollo' from their debut album 'Interspace'.  An intro with heavy boomy bass lines sucked us in straight away, and the drum solo half way in was a nice treat. Add to the mix the driving groovy guitar riffs and it's really hard not to fault this 3 piece and their infectious sound.  The vocals are raw and strong but disciplined with a sexy tone.  Cool song, cool video and it's our understanding that the bass player animated the video for 'Apollo', as well as designed the album cover's artwork! Nice work BGC, we look forward to hearing the rest of the album.

Now...this is the thing, the boys have recorded their debut album, but the guys need help with raising funds to pay for pressing the recording on CD and Vinyl! The guys have set up a Crowdfund with a target of $4000.00 and there is just under 3 days left until the deadline finishes on the 9 July at 4:00pm.

Head on over to BGC Pozible account via http://www.pozible.com/project/197049 to find out more, there are also some awesome rewards with each pledge received!

The boys took time out to answer a few questions for us...good luck Baltimore Gun Club. \m/

Tell us how the band formed, where you’re from and how long you have been together?
In 2012, Psymon was looking for a bunch of likeminded gypsies to assemble a sound that would blast jangly mustachioed, gluten free hipsters off the stage. We were craving music we wanted to hear and we just couldn’t find it on the live scene. Thus, Baltimore Gun Club came kicking and screaming into the world.

How would you describe the band’s style and who or what are your influences?
We play loud dirty grungy rock. We call it “GRONER” a mix between Grunge, Rock & Stoner. Our influences draw on 70’s rock like Sabbath and Zeppelin, with healthy lashings of 90’s grunge and pinches of dirty garage rock. – Apologies for the recipe- esque explanation….. food shows seem to be quite the thing these days.

What inspirations do you draw on to create your sound?
We want our music to make you jump up and down. To give you a sense of “Party on Wayne.” Everyone in the band like loud guitars , huge sounding drums and massive bass so we do our best to try and create that. If you’d never heard us before and walked into a bar and we are playing we want to capture you in our rocky net and get you grooving.

Are your songs a collaborative effort or does the band have a main songwriter. How does the music affect the lyrics and vice versa?
In the beginning Psymon would usually come in to rehearsals with a riff and we’d jam that out adding our own bits and pieces. Lately we’ve just been jamming out new tunes and developing them which is really exciting to see our collective songwriting taking off. Music is always first always comes first. Lyrics well generally follow the rhythm and the vibe of the song. We like to follow a serious lyric (if there is such a thing) with a contradiction. Not much is off limits, we sing about Jesus bending spoons ….to Farmers wanting a wife.

Which song/s are the most fun to play live or which song/s are you most proud of?
The first track off our soon to be released album is great to play. All the punters get into it…..people were dancing with chairs last week at The Underdog Pub. It’s a rocky 4 on the floor number that has a harmonica solo and a few times changes…. We are pretty proud of that one. Of course our song “Apollo” has been amazing for us after it has been featured on RAGE a few times.

Tell us about the new release and tour, what’s the plan for the band moving forward?
We have launched a crowdfunding campaign to press our album on CD & Vinyl. Dang records are expensive to press!! There are some cool little perks our fans can get if they pre purchase our album, such as a thanks in the album credits or an animation cell from our Apollo filmclip (LINK > http://www.pozible.com/project/197049)

We are sketching out ideas for our next film clip. Then we hit the road in September to tour the East coast of Australia, then when we return hit the studio for album number 2!
