Decryptus - The Chrysalis Throne Pre Tour 2015

Strap yourselves in South East Queensland, Decryptus is coming to town this August to play a couple of shows in both Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The boys haven't ventured up North for a while so get your shit together people and with no excuses get to one of the upcoming gigs presented by MMK Music Promotions. Decryptus will also be appearing at this years Metal United Down Under Brisbane!

The guys have been bunkering down, laying out new tracks to their highly anticipated EP 'The Necrotic Design' and just recently they released a You Tube teaser on their Facebook page. Sounds pretty awesome so check it out now..

Before the guys went on a short hiatus from gigging to knuckle down and write the new EP, they answered a few questions for us, see what the guys had to say.

Tell us about how the band formed, where you’re from and how long have you been together? Are you all original members?

Will Magnusson vocalist:

Well I guess you could say we formed in early 2014 when our last member Dane inkstain McKenzie joined on guitar. Dom and I had been in a band called Anarchaos years before and we met Sam through mutual friends we are all from the tweed valley in northern NSW. And are all the original members

How would you describe the band’s style and who are your influences?

Its a bit of a mix of a few different styles I guess if you mixed sepultura with old slayer and lamb of god then added a sprinkle of death metal and hardcore you’d be somewhere around what we are. As what influences us I can only speak for myself and I listen to all kinds of metal from tech and brutal death, doom, deathcore, old school thrash ,hardcore ,grind ,industrial and progy weird stuff and I’m sure it all influences your writing but I always seem to gravitate back to bands I listened to when I was a kid. Pantera, Metallica, slayer, sepultura, fear factory, iced earth, meshuggah just to name a few

What inspirations do you draw on?

Lyrically decryptus is really influenced by the occult, oligarchic conspiracy theory’s , death, war ,politics , spiritualism ,ancient mysticism, you know, all the fun stuff.

Tell us about some highlights or low points of the bands career?

A highlight for me would be all the gigs we have done over the last year. Some of them have been amazing also all the awesome people we have met and killer bands we have played

Are the songs a collaborative effort or does the band have a main songwriter. How does the music affect the lyrics and vice versa?

I write the songs then everone puts in their ideas and the song goes from there. So in the end it does become a bit of collaboration between us all. Occasionally I will have had ideas for lyrics while writing the song but normally I write the lyrics last which sometimes mean the songs can change again slightly to accommodate something I’m trying to do vocally.

How would you describe the evolution of the band’s sound?

I think we still see ourselves as a thrash band and originally our sound was a lot more geared towards that but we have evolved somewhat taking in more ideas from other subgenres , breakdowns and blast beats making us I think heavier and more unique.

What’s different in the music industry today compared to when you first started and what would you do differently if you where just entering the industry today?

Bands have a lot more of an online presence, they can also interact a lot more with fans and grow there fan base but in saying that fans seem a lot more apathetic and less interested. It’s understandable when everyone’s vying for your attention trying shove there music down your throat. As we are a new band it has been a bit of a learning curve using all the social media outlets especially when all you want to do is play music.

Which of your song/s are the most fun to play live, or which songs are you most proud of?

I have to say one of our newer songs I am berserker. It’s a bit slower than most of our songs and Its really fun to play live and always seems to get the crowd going.

What should we expect from the band in 2015, or what’s the plan for the band moving forward?
We are about to head into the studio to record our debut E.P so we are planning to tour when that comes out and hopefully get down to Sydney and Melbourne also we will do a video clip and again hopefully play some interstate festivals and get some international supports slots. We have already had some interest from small record labels and we are looking into getting a full time manager, so all in all things are getting pretty hectic.
