Our friends Hammerhead were kind enough to answer a few questions for us, they reveal some interesting facts you may not know about the boys...

Tell us about how the band formed, where you’re from and how long have you been together? Are you all original members?

HH formed in September ’04. Nick and original bass player, Adrian Smith, had been playing music together for 12 years and put the word out for a lead guitarist and drummer (Adrian Scott and Nathan Adams) and, both of whom were mates having played together a decade themselves. The match-up was seamless and material came together quickly and naturally. We recorded or debut album “Stiff” in 2006. In 2008 we had a drummer change up and saw Paul Hiscuit step up to the plate and to record “Seduction Suite”. 2011 rolled around and we brought out album number 3 with Patty (Pancakes) Whelan picking up the hammer. Danny Swain joined forces to take on the duties of bass and backing vocals in 2012 and the latest addition to this band of misfits was Ryan Rudd in 2014!

How would you describe the band’s style and who are your influences?

HH are a guitar oriented hard melodic rock band. Big catchy chorus hooks are the order of the day. Influences across members include Van Halen, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Dream Theatre, KISS, Zakk Wylde.

What inspirations do you draw on?
Same as everyone else - inspirations are drawn from life experiences: relationships, travel, marriage, divorce, biblical, bad sushi…??

Tell us about some highlights or low points of the bands career?

Recent support spot for Motley Crue & Alice Cooper. Also previously played with The Screaming Jets, The Choir Boys, Raise the Flag. Have had a few great fun interstate mini tour adventures over the years with the usual shenanigans.

Are the songs a collaborative effort or does the band have a main songwriter. How does the music affect the lyrics and vice versa?

When it comes to the music, the only rule is there are no rules. Could be a riff, could be a lyrical line, a bass line or a drum beat to get the ball rolling. 99 percent of the time the ones that come together quickly are the sure fire winners.

How would you describe the evolution of the band’s sound?

Hammerhead’s sound has primarily evolved through a decade of teaming the vocals up with the guitars and recognising to let it go early when it doesn’t work. We’ve always found it hard to pigeonhole ourselves. We get called all sorts from listeners so that doesn’t make pigeonholing any easier. As long as there are catchy hooks and awesome guitars, who cares!

What’s different in the music industry today compared to when you first started and what would you do differently if you where just entering the industry today?

No major shifts in the industry since we started - just the slow death of cds. Had we had the means and co-operation from family, the first thing we should have done for the band would have been to leave Australia. We’re a fish out of water here. Besides that - video, video video!

Which of your song/s are the most fun to play live, or which songs are you most proud of?

Dance of the Mail Order Bride has always been our most requested signature. Still fun to play.
What should we expect from the band in 2015, or what’s the plan for the band moving forward?
Album number 4, ‘Oblivion’ is in the making. Lining up a month in the U.S. for March 2016 and ultimately world domination. Nick is thinking of becoming an American citizen and running against Kayne!!

Name some of the bands you grew up listening to?

Nick Reeve (Vocals and Guitar) Billy Joel

Adrian Scott (Lead Guitar) Bon Jovi, G’N’R, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Metallica, Megadeth, SRV, Van Halen, Satriani, Dream Theater, Ozzy Osbourne.

Patty Pancakes (Drums) Bon Jovi, G’N’R, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Metallica, Megadeth, SRV, Van Halen, Satriani, Dream Theater, Ozzy Osbourne.

Danny (Bass, backing vocals) Mum and Dad had a lot of Beach Boys, The Eagles, Dire Straits, John Farnham playing. I later found my way onto Gunners, Metallica, Chilli Peppers, Motley ETC.

Ryan (Lead Guitar) Some of the music I enjoyed listening to growing were bands like Guns n Roses, Green Day and Good Charlotte, but nothing I listened to when I was younger really inspired me to be the musician I am today.

If you could play in any other band, who would it be?

Nick (Vocals and Guitars) Black Sabbath

Adrian (Lead Guitar) A Hammerhead cover band. Or the Muppet Movie band.

Patty Pancakes (Drums) Avantasia
Danny (Bass and Vocals) Any project that Slash was part of or any other band that is having fun and making great music

Ryan (Leads Guitar) At the moment I think it would be Killswitch Engage. I can just imagine the amount of awesome energy there would be at every gig from both the band and the crowd.

Who did you see at your first ever concert?

Nick (Vocals and Guitar) John Farnham

Adrian (Lead Guitar) First proper concert – Tommy Emmanuel.

Patty Pancakes (Drums) Dave Weckl Band

Danny (Bass and Backing vocals) John Farnham

Ryan (Lead Guitar) My first ever concert was Soundwave 2011 and included bands like Iron Maiden, Protest The Hero and Slash among others.

What album do you have on repeat in your stereo/ipod?

Nick (Vocals and Guitars) House of Lords - Big Money

Adrian (Lead Guitar) is week – The Days of Grey by Sonata Arctica

Patty Pancakes (Drums) Rage - Strings to a Web

Danny (Bass and Backing Vocals) Audioslave – Audioslave, Karnivool – Themata

Ryan (Lead Guitar) At the moment I have Periphery's double album Juggernaut on repeat all the time. A truly killer album!

In your opinion, which local or Aussie band/s should we be watching out for, or who do you think are genuine standout’s at the moment?

Nick (Vocals and Guitar) Viagro (Newcastle);

Adrian (Lead Guitar) Hammerhead of course! Lot’s of great Aussie metal bands out there support them all!

Patty Pancakes (Drums) Black Majesty and The Radio Sun

Danny (Bass and backing Vocals) Captives. These guys aren’t only top dudes and my mates from back home but they are the hardest working band I know. Their music is ever evolving and their live shows are something to behold.

Ryan (Lead Guitar) I definitely would be keeping my eye on Brisbane band Caligula's Horse right now; progressive metal champions who are extremely talented in all facets and should be bringing out their third album soon hopefully..!

Hammerhead is a hard rock band, combining virtuoso guitar solos, big harmonised vocals and catchy hooks that make their music unforgettable! After opening for Motley Crue and Alice Cooper this year - these guys have been in demand! They are currently recording their 4th studio album and preparing to tour through America early next year.

RocketTrain focuses heavily on delivering a live show thats more than just a band on a stage! Plenty of crowd participation, sing along passages and copious amounts of stage banter between the band members is highly entertaining and leaves the crowd wanting more! Having shared the stage with Rose Tattoo, Body Jar, LORD and many more RocketTrain are currently recording their first EP with an internationally recognised producer and are ready to rock hard and party harder.

Pyromance was formed in late 2012 by front man Jake Blatchly and lead guitarist and Chris Fleming. Their songwritting and performance styles take influence from hard rock, punk, glam, theatre, alternative, grunge and blues with an audacious modern edge. They have just released their debut EP "Carnal Carnage" which has been praised by rockers, punks, goths and radio DJ's worldwide and their only goal is to play rock n' roll with the authenticity, soul, conviction and realness it deserves.
